DENR Recommends Volume 14 is unavailable online. You can get a copy at ERDB, College, Laguna or at the liason office in DENR, QC. A copy can also be requested through mail, but, with a corresponding mailing fee of P50 (local mail only).
Originally, this forest tree seed calendar conceptually aimed to gather as much phenological data on various forest tree species, both indigenous and exotic, in the country. These data were largely obtained from existing seed production areas and other seed sources of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regional offices. Additional data were taken from the seed collection archive of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB). A literature search was resorted to with regard to more recent information on fruit and seed characteristics.
On the other hand, data on methods of collection, extraction, processing, and germination of seeds as well as on seed count, seed type (orthodox, recalcitrant, or intermediate), and sowing media were based on the studies conducted by the ERDB and the University of the Philippines Los BaƱos-College of Forestry and Natural Resouces (UPLB-CFNR). Photographs of specimen fruits and seeds, live or preserved, are provided to facilitate reader’s/user’s identification/recognition of the species.
The list of forest tree seeds in this volume is not at all complete. Nevertheless, it can be used as a reference material in the collection of seeds for the production of planting stock.
