The Nickel Asia Corporation-Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC) personnel visited the Forest and Wetland Research Development and Extension Center (FWRDEC) for a facility tour and benchmarking about the operations of the laboratories and facilities as well as the implementation of different projects for the enhancement of their intensive Rehabilitation Program on May 3, 2023, at Maharlika, Bislig City.

A photo op of the visitors together with FWRDEC OIC Head Forester Joan Gilbero and Planning Focal Forester Ilyn Orella.

Before the tour, the team initiated a courtesy call with the FWRDEC OIC- Head For. Joan Gilbero to discuss the purpose of the visit.

In response, For. Gilbero warmly welcomed the visitors, highlighting the role of ERDB- FWRDEC as the research arm of the DENR, information and technology generated should be shared and disseminated to the public, especially to the DENR frontlines.

The tour highlighted the exposure of the visitors to the different facilities and laboratories of the center that include the Pest and Disease Laboratory, Plant Tissue and Soils Laboratory, Wood Science Laboratory, Mindanao Forest Tree Seed Center, and the FWRDEC Clonal Nursery.

Aside from the tour, discussion on the different projects implemented as well as the technical assistance provided by the center was also tackled just like the TA extended to mining companies like Philsaga Mining on Carbon Assessment.

The CMC personnel are very positive that with the learnings they got from FWRDEC, they could recommend strategies that would surely enhance their operations and their goal for Intensive Rehabilitation Program. Ilyn C. Orella, FWRDEC
