One pressing concern on managing hazardous wastes is the generation of health care waste (HCW) by healthcare facilities (HCF) such as hospitals, medical centers, laboratories, research centers, and testing laboratories. These wastes, if left unmanaged, may pose risks to human health and the environment. The limited information regarding waste management in small-scale HCFs like clinical laboratories (CLs) has been a worldwide concern. In addition, studies on HCW management in CLs in the Philippines are not comprehensive. Nonetheless, some studies have identified some waste management practices in clinical laboratories in Iran and Brazil as shown in Table 1.
