A hands-on demo of the training-participants on bamboo nursery establishment of the members of the FAMDEV Philippines Marketing Cooperative in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon

With the implementation of a PCAARRD- funded project titled, “Science and Technology Community-based Nursery, Plantation Establishment and Management of Giant Bamboo in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon”, the Forest and Wetland Research Development and Extension Center (FWRDEC) facilitated a hands-on training on bamboo nursery establishment and management to the Family Development (FAMDEV) Philippines Marketing Cooperative on March 31, 2022 at Can- ayan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

This is a continuation activity after the conduct of the training on bamboo establishment and management in November 2021.

As part of the project’s undertakings, this activity aims to capacitate the farmer cooperators of the project in the S&T community-based bamboo nursery establishment and management.

The activities include the preparation of appropriated potting of soil media (composed of soil, rice hull, and organic matter), application of treatment to induce rapid root and shoot development of the collected bamboo branch cuttings through soaking of cutting in the 5-10% rooting hormones solution, transplanting of rooted cuttings from the non-mist rooting chamber to the prepared potting media, and maintenance and protection of planting materials in the nursery.

Through this endeavor, the project will continue to monitor the established nursery as it targets to produce 5000 giant bamboo planting materials with the help of farmer cooperators. FWRDEC
