The ERDB’s Urban and Biodiversity Research, Development and Extension Center (UBRDEC) initiate the Kapihan sa Talipan on December 6, 2021 held at the Center’s Conference Room. UBRDEC, in partnership with the Brgy. Officials invited the heads of government agencies located within Barangay Talipan, Pagbilao, Quezon such as the Provincial Agriculture Office, Provincial Engineering Office, Pagbilao District Jail, Provincial Veterinary Office, Parole and Probation Office, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Education and the Land Registration Authority-Registry of Deeds.
Kapihan sa Talipan aims to unite the various agencies towards environmental protection and conservation and support the Barangay’s ordinances and activities.
Ms. Arlene B. Ranara, UBRDEC Research Development Unit head welcomed the participants and shared the Centers’ mission and vision.
Ms. Ann Valerie V. Gillado, OIC-Chief of Technology Transfer and Extension Unit, on the other hand, explained the objectives of the Kapihan and facilitated the discussion.
Center Head Gregorio E. Santos, Jr., UBRDEC Center Head said, “We would like to grab this opportunity to meet each one of you and discuss how we can help the barangay in terms of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.
Our collaborative efforts and unity will surely create a big impact in the barangay.”
Brgy. Councilor Florentino Melendrez presented the barangay ordinances and initiatives related to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation to include “Tapat ko, Linis ko” and prohibition of garbage disposal on roadsides.
Penalties and punishment were also enumerated. The barangay officials present requested for support in its implementation.
Present during the Kapihan are the following: Mr. Teodoro D. Villaverde, Chief Probation and Parole Officer of Parole and Probation Office, Brgy. Councilor Erna Bombuhay, Mr. Ron Imperial and Ms. Arlene Tolentino, DepEd representatives, Mr. John Paulo España, Provincial Veterinary Office representative, Mr. Renen Endrenal, Registry of Deeds representative, JSupt. Alvin I. Gavan, MPA, Jail Warden of Pagbilao District Jail, Engr. Ferdinand Muñoz, Asst. Provincial Engineer of Provincial Engineering Office, and Brgy. Councilor Florentino Melendrez.
Each participant had a chance to introduce their office and give their commitment of support.
Some of the agreements and discussions were the request of the Parole and Probation Office to train the PDLs on parole on environmental protection and conservation, a commitment of the Pagbilao District Jail in clean up drive and coordinate with the barangay officials to identify the priority areas, provision of sacks of Provincial Veterinary Office to be used as garbage bags by the barangay.
The UBRDEC, through its Center Head Gregorio E. Santos Jr. is committed to providing technical assistance on sustainable urbanization and biodiversity conservation. Center Head Santos, enumerated the activities and projects of the office and assured the participants that the Center has enough technology transfer and technical personnel to support the barangay and other agencies to their requests.
