In observance of the Month of the Ocean, five representatives from the Toxic and Hazardous Wastes Research, Development and Extension Center (THWRDEC) attended the exhibit with the theme “Protect and Restore Ecosystems and Biodiversity” held at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) on May 20, 2022.

Several key officials including Senator Cynthia Villar, DENR-NCR Regional Executive Director Jacqueline Caancan, and Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Manuel Escasura delivered messages during the program.

The LPPWP organized the event in partnership with various organizations such as the Office of Senator Villar, One Earth-One Ocean Manila, Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, Inc. (SCPW), and One Pawikan Organization among others.

The exhibit showcased the top 15 entries from the mobile photography contest launched last month in celebration of the Earth Day.

Distinguished guests led by Mr. Michael Yu of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) and Ms. Amy M. Lecciones of SCPW also talked about the brief history of LPPWP and shared their experiences on years of working at Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area or LPPCHEA.

The main goal of the event is to highlight the importance of conservation, protection, and sustainable management of the Philippine coastal and marine resources.

The final part of the program was the announcement of the finalists and awarding of the winners of the photography contest.

Mr. Eman Foronda of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Manila won first place in the contest. Lea Mari Santos, SRS II
