As deforestation and forest degradation continue to threaten the Philippine forests, CRERDEC of ERDB, the research arm of DENR takes the lead in the establishment of the experimental forests in the Visayas Region in line with the department’s mandate to conserve, manage, develop, and ensure the proper use of the country’s natural resources. Two of the three experimental forests in Region 6 managed by CRERDEC are located in Aningalan, San Remigio, Antique and Bacuyangan, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.
As Information and Education Campaign is seen as one of the effective ways to combat forest exploitation, CRERDEC takes a step forward to educate local communities within the experimental forest and supports concerned DENR-CENROs in strengthening the enforcement of environmental and forest laws towards the conservation and protection of the forest for the generations to come. A team headed by the Center Head, Dr. Alicia L. Lustica, together with the OIC of CRERDEC Region 6 Station, Maechelle June G. Blanca, and some technical staff of DENR CENRO Belison, Antique conducted a lecture on Environmental and Forest Protection Laws on October 18, 2021 at Brgy. Aningalan, San Remigio, Antique.
