The Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau welcomed its new Director, Ms. Maria Lourdes G. Ferrer (CESO III) during the turnover ceremony held via Zoom on January 17, 2022.
“We need to be able to prioritize our research areas and focus on those that are badly needed to spur the implementation of our programs, thereby enhancing the delivery of our services and mandates.”, Director Ferrer emphasized during her acceptance speech.
Director Ferrer gained a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics and the Program for Development Economics at the University of the Philippines Diliman and her Master’s degree in Environmental Management at the Philippine Women’s University. Her competency in leadership, policy formulation, and field operations for the environment and natural resources have been manifested through the various positions she held in the environmental sector.
Prior to her appointment as the new ERDB Director, Director Ferrer was the Regional Executive Director of the DENR MIMAROPA. She has also led different offices in the DENR: Director of the DENR Policy and Planning Service Office, Director of the Program Implementation Unit of the Field Operations Office, Deputy Executive Director and Officer-In-Charge of the Manila Bay Coordinating Office, and Director of the Foreign Assisted and Special Projects Office.
Outgoing director Dr. Henry A. Adornado officially handed over the directorship to Director Ferrer pursuant to Special Order No. 2022-11 dated January 06, 2022, signed by DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu. The ceremony was spearheaded by the DENR Undersecretary for Legal, Administration, Human Resources, and Legislative Affairs, Atty. Ernesto D. Adobo, Jr. (CESO I).
After serving as the ERDB Director in 2015 -2018 and 2020-2022, Dr. Adornado expressed his gratitude during the ceremony. “I would like to take this opportunity, not just to turn over the directorship to Director Ondet, but also to sincerely thank the whole ERDB personnel for their all-out support and cooperation during my incumbency.”, he said.
Dr. Adornado will now assume office as the Regional Executive Director of the DENR MIMAROPA Region, a position he had also served in 2018.
Witnesses of the turnover ceremony include ERDB Assistant Director Forester Mayumi Quintos-Natividad, OIC-Director of DENR-HRDS Ms. Miriam M. Marcelo, and all the ERDB Division Chiefs, Center Heads, and employees from the different Divisions and Research, Development and Extension Centers.
ERDB is the primary research arm of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources located in Los Banos, Laguna that performs relevant research, development, and extension programs towards a healthy environment and sustainable natural resources. ###
