Employees from ERDB Main Office and the six RDECs took part in the opening ceremony of ERDB’s Environment Month Celebration on June 01, 2022.

Los Baños, Laguna – The Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau officially launched its celebration of the Philippine Environment Month on June 01, 2022, via Zoom and Facebook Live, with the theme of “Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo.”

More than 100 individuals composed of researchers, staff, and other employees of the ERDB from the Main Office and Research, Development, and Extension Centers (RDECs) across the country participated in the webinar.

The opening program of the month-long celebration commenced through an opening message from the ERDB Director Maria Lourdes G. Ferrer, CESO III.

Director Ferrer highlighted the importance of environment month, emphasizing that even though it is being celebrated once a year, action towards conserving and preserving the environment must be practiced all year round.

The new director expressed her positivity that the activities prepared by ERDB for the Filipinos will help them be reminded of the importance of the environment to mankind and all life forms on Earth.

 “There is a necessity to heighten the environmental consciousness of our people and to generate greater participation and integration of efforts through the extended celebration of environmental protection concern and awareness in the country.”, Ms. Liberty E. Asis, Section Chief of the Technology Promotion, Monitoring, and Evaluation and Extension Section (TPMEES) of the Technology Transfer Division (TTD) said after giving an overview of the history of the Environment Month in the country.

Mr. Juan B. Ebora, the Chief of TTD, presented the schedule of activities for the whole month of June. The activities include four episodes of the ERDB Eco-Youth Podcast, the Digital Short Filmmaking Contest, Sylvatalks, and many more activities sponsored by the research, development, and extension centers (RDECs) across the country that aims to equip the youth with knowledge and increase their appreciation about the Philippine ecosystems and environment and natural resources (ENR) concerns.

ERDB Assistant Director Forester Mayumi Quintos-Natividad gave the closing remarks by expressing her gratitude to the participants both on Zoom and on Facebook.

The Assistant Director stated that our collective actions, no matter how big or small, are significant for the betterment of our environment.
