To culminate the weeklong celebration of the 17th National Biotechnology Week (NBW), the DENR’s Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) awarded the winners of its online 2021 Enviocon’s Digital Art Contest on November 26, 2021 via Zoom and Facebook live.
The Enviocon is a contest designed by the DENR-ERDB for the Filipino youth specifically the high school students. The theme for this year’s Enviocon is “Biotechnologies for a Healthy Environment”.
The awards were given based on the following criteria: concept and theme relevance-40%, originality – 20%, creativity- 20%, timelapse video and description – 10%, and Viewers’ Input or People’s Choice -10%.
The judges were composed of the following: Mr. Tristan Yuvienco, an illustrator and designer of books, comics and animations a graduate of Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines, Ms. Rica Gallardo, a digital artist and currently pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, USA. and Mr Dennis Balbaboco, a portrait artist based in Manila.
Ms. Emelou Pacimos, Grade 11 student from Arellano University Juan Sumulong Campus, Metro Manila got P20,000 for being the first place while Pliny Juedea Del Rio, Grade 10 student of the Quezon National High School and Yosef Christian Cuenca, Grade `12-STEM of the Philippine Science High School- CALABARZON Region Campus, Batangas City received P15,000 and P10,000 for being the 2nd and 3rd placers, respectively. The other participants were also given consolation prizes and plaques of recognition.
Last year’s first prize winner Mr. Harvey Angelo D. Tan of the Quezon National High School in Lucena City also gave his message for the contest.
The People’s Choice Award went to Ms. Angel Ann Banagan, Grade 10 student of the Dr. Maria D. Pastrana National High School, Quezon province. Ms. Banagan received P7,000 cash prize. Marla V. Cambay, TTD
