ERDB Director Maria Lourdes G. Ferrer delivers the opening remarks

The first speaker is For. Janice B. Otana, Science Research Specialist II of the Watershed and Water Resources Research, Development, and Extension Center (WWRRDEC), where she discussed the “Biophysical Assessment of Selected Pine Forests in Benguet Province”. She shared the results of the study which included the soil’s physical and chemical properties of pine forests, the status of water quality and quantity of water sources, threatened floral species in the selected pine forests, carbon sequestered by trees within the sampling plots, and identified existing and potential threats to the depletion of pine forests.

The discussion was followed by Ms. Paulina Rowena C. Payuan, Senior Science Research Specialist of Urban Ecosystem Research Division, with a presentation on the study “Tourism Carrying Capacity of the Beach Nourishment Project Site City of Manila, Philippines”. It aims to determine the tourism carrying capacity and identify the recreational activities within the beach nourishment site.

For. Jan Mariano M. Cadelino, Senior Science Research Specialist at Urban and Biodiversity Research, Development, and Extension Center, tackled the “Ecological Characterization and Carrying Capacity Assessment in Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan”. The study recommends revisiting the Protected Area Management Board resolution that set the 1,200 visitors per day capacity of the park since there is merit in decreasing the allowed visitors per day. In addition to this, there is a need for tourism facilities such as holding and waiting areas to avoid overcrowding.

Assistant Director For. Mayumi Quintos-Natividad also emphasized the importance of information sharing within the Bureau and the target stakeholders in her closing remarks./ Allysa Marie C. Federio, TTD
