The Agroforestry Research, Development and Extension Center (ARDEC) of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) participated in the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week 2023 (RSTW 2023) organized by the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) which was held on November 9 & 10, 2023 at Tagum City Hall Atrium in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
As part of ARDEC’s participation in RSTW 2023, the Center showcased the ERDB technologies on macropropagation of forest trees and bamboo propagation through an exhibit display of posters. Brochures of such technologies as well as the contour farming using lemongrass as vegetative strips for soil conservation, and Hi-Q Vam 1 were also distributed to various visitors.
Moreover, ARDEC was given the chance to participate in the technology forum to promote its ENR technologies to potential adopters in Region XI. Community Development Officer II Reylan Dave A. Evangelista presented the concepts of macropropagation of indigenous forest tree species through cloning and its step-by-step procedures while Senior Science Research Specialists Eduardo O. Sagarino and Alex R. Palero shared the techniques on bamboo propagation and its potential for providing livelihood to people and its environmental significance.

The RSTW 2023 was attended by various sectors in Region XI such as the local government units, national government agencies, academe, private institutions, and People’s Organizations.

This year’s theme “Siyensiya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan” underscores the pivotal role that Science, Technology, and Innovation play in shaping a prosperous and resilient future. Jethrone M. Setenta, ARDEC
