The Agroforestry Research, Development and Extension Center (ARDEC) of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) participated in the celebration of World Bamboo Day and Philippine Bamboo Month spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry Region XI (DTI XI) and the Davao Region Bamboo Industry Development Council (DRBIDC) on September 19, 2023, at ARDEC Station 2, Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

Various activities were conducted to commemorate the significant event as a way of recognizing the role of bamboo in people’s lives and its potential to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A technology exhibit featuring different commercially important bamboo species, bamboo products, and bamboo planting materials was installed at the venue to showcase bamboo as one of the most versatile and sustainable resources.
Key officials of ARDEC, DRBIDC, DTI XI, DENR XI, TESDA XI, DOST XI, local government units of Nabunturan and Davao de Oro, and the Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) and other participants planted their bamboo propagules at ARDEC Bambusetum.
Teams from Tagum National Trade School, ARDEC, and DSSC showed their cooking skills during the Pagkaing Kawayan cooking competition sponsored by Dr. Merdelyn Caasi-Lit where the team from DSSC was adjudged the winner.
