Los Baños, Laguna – The Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) through the Technology Transfer Division (TTD) launched its official YouTube Channel via Facebook and YouTube Live last June 4, 2021 in celebration of the Philippine Environment Month.

Since 2018, ERDB only uses one social media platform which is the Facebook page. This is used mostly to disseminate information and communicate concerns with the general public.

YouTube is intended to maximize information dissemination through different types of explainer videos – from expert interviews to in-depth exploration of ERDB technologies. This will provide ERDB clients a better understanding of the technologies and the issues and concerns in ENR research, development, and extension.

In his message via zoom, ERDB Director Henry A. Adornado emphasized the importance of expanding the means of disseminating information, “through contemporary channels such as knowledge products, IEC materials, and social media, we strive to bring research results and technologies to the general public in order to build a society of informed citizens.

And we need to participate in discussions, to make our voices heard, and encourage more Filipinos to take active participation in environmental activities, he added.

For the virtual launch of the YouTube channel, Allysa Marie C. Federio, Media Production Specialist II of ERB, discussed the various activities for the Environment Month.

There will be #EcoWis which is a short pop culture quiz contest which aims to explore the environmental narratives in various works of fiction, and the launching of virtual exhibits.

ERDB Asst. Director Mayumi Quintos Natividad ended the launch with some reminders in using social media. “Tailor the content you consume. Do the world a favor and follow environmental advocates, NGOs, and other environmental groups on your social media accounts. In a world full of influencers, content creators, and vloggers, it’s refreshing to see content telling us how to save the environment rather than how to ruin it.”

The month of June was declared Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 237 signed in 1988 by then President Corazon Aquino to raise environmental consciousness among Filipinos. The celebration coincides with the World Environment Day, which is observed on June 5.  Allysa Marie C. Federio, TTD
