Alarmed by the dwindling source of bamboo in Talim Island due to environmental degradation, over cutting, and land conversion the ERDB through the PARTNER-BOND Project (Pro-Active Response Towards Nurturing Environmental Relations: A Barangay Outreach Project Based on Community Needs and Demands) conducted the Training on Bamboo Production Technology in Talim Island, Binangonan, Rizal on May 28-29, 2014.
The training aimed to orient and demonstrate to the participants the ERDB developed technology on "propagule production of kawayan tinik".
There were 30 participants in the training composed of the fishermen PO members of the 2 barangays (Samahang Mangingisda ng Brgy. Pinagdilawan and Barangay Ginoong Sanay).
The resource persons were For. Gregorio E. Santos Jr. of ERDB and Dr. Carlos Garcia of FPRDI. For. Gregorio E. Santos Jr. tackled the topics on: Bamboos and their classes; Importance and the potential of bamboos; Introduction to ERDB's technology on "Production of Planting Materials of Kawayan Tinik"; and Management of Bamboo Plantation. Dr. Carlos Garcia presented the topic on "Bamboo Utilization and Preservation". After the lectures, a hands-on and field demonstration exercise on the planting of bamboo was conducted by Mr. Edgardo Castillo of ERDB.
The ERDB Partner Bond Team is composed of Ms. Vienna O. Austria, Project Leader, Marla V. Cambay, Asst. Project Leader and Gideon Mendoza, Project Staff. Mrs. Teresita Erasga and Ms. Gliceria de Guzman also assisted in the training.
