On July 18, 2018, a forum entitled “Recommended Pollutant-Absorbent Plant Species (PAPS) and other ENR Technologies was held at the Atrium Executive Bldg., Mandaluyong City. The activity is part of the IEC campaign for the promotion of ENR technologies for adoption of its stakeholders in urban areas. The forum was undertaken to create awareness among stakeholders regarding the importance of the recommended-pollutant absorbent plant species in urban greening and other technologies. Moreover, it aims to determine stakeholders’ information and training needs which will serve as basis in designing strategies for further technical assistance.
A total of 76 participants (30 males and 46 females) attended the said activity which included representatives from the 27 barangays, some officials and employees of City Environmental Management Department and Solid Waste Management Office. Mr. Emmanuel C. Oblea,Jr., City ENRO welcomed the participants to the forum wherein he emphasized the importance of the topics to be discussed specifically the recommended PAPS. On the other hand, UTHRC Center Head Nery A. Alba provided insights on the benefits of PAPS to the environment vis-à-vis climate change mitigation. Before the end of the forum, Mayor Menchie Abalos gave an inspirational message and expressed her sincere gratitude to ERDB-UTHRC for the conduct of the said activity.
Topics discussed during the forum include not only the recommended PAPS but some phytoremediation schemes that could help mitigate the high rate of pollution in the metropolis. In the end, Ms. Evangeline R. Marcelino provided the closing remarks and the pronouncement of continued partnership with the City of Mandaluyong in all ENR related projects being implemented in the City. UTHRC
