The UTHRC through its Technology Packaging and Promoting Unit conducted its 4th Quarter ELTAG meeting for CY 2017 on Nov. 17, 2017 at the Public Library of Parañaque. Representative/s from the Environmental Livelihood Technology Advocates Group (ELTAG) of LGU-NCR participated in the meeting. A total of 20 (11 males and 9 females) participants representing 4 cities in Metro Manila comprised the attendees with 10 staff (2 males and 8 females) from UTHRC.

In behalf of Mayor Olivares, Mr. Mar L. Jimenez, Head of Public Information Office, Parañaque City welcomed the participants. Mr. Jimenez said that the Parañaque City government prioritizes the “food always in the home” wherein innovations focus on urban farming, solid waste management and water management.

Ms. Nery A. Alba, Center Head, UTHRC gave her message that focused on UTHRC’s mandates. She cited that the research center thru its IEC project on technical assistance to stakeholders aims to promote and disseminate information on the management of toxic substances and hazardous wastes. Thus, this group will be an excellent avenue to promote its mandate.

As part of the meeting agenda, each representative presented the different ENR activities of the city. The host city thru its OIC of the City Agriculture Office, Parañaque City presented their urban gardening/nursery using PET bottles wherein the city won in the NCR vertical gardening competition. The Cooperative Development Office of Taguig City highlighted its ENR accomplishments thru the different activities for the Cooperative Month Celebration of the City and the products made from waste materials. Valenzuela City presented the City’s People’s Park which features the flora and fauna, amenities and designs inside the park. The CENRO Makati City presented the composting technique applied by the city i.e layering method and large scale composting.

Ultimately, the participants of the meeting provided informative and detailed technologies being adopted by each city. The participants expressed their continuous commitment and support to ERDB-UTHRC’s projects and also to other environmental undertakings of the DENR. UTHRC
