In line with the IEC campaign for the promotion of ENR technologies, UTHRC conducted an activity entitled “Forum on Recommended Pollution-Absorbent Plant Species for Vertical/Urban Greening” on July 14, 2017 at the Conference Hall, Brgy. Sucat, Muntinlupa City. The said activity is envisioned to raise awareness on ENR technologies among stakeholders vis-à-vis an avenue for priming a harmonious working relationship with prospective technology adopters in the region. Participants on the said forum include Barangay Sucat officials, officials of Senior Citizen Group and Homeowners’ Association, and youth leaders. The UTHRC staff conducts trainings not only on the above technology but also on other ENR technologies related to livelihood options i.e. recycling, vermicomposting, charcoal briquetting and seedling propagation through clonal technology.

In his welcome remarks, Brgy. Chairman Mamerto T. Sevilla, Jr. expressed his gratitude to ERDB-UTHRC for choosing Brgy. Sucat as a benefactor of the ENR technology project on vertical planting using pollution-absorbent plant species. Moreover, he lauded the technical assistance being provided by the center specifically on the conduct of the forum.

On the other hand, Ms. Nery A. Alba, UTHRC Center Head expound the role of ERDB-UTHRC as a research arm of DENR on TSHWs management as well as the extension services being extended to the stakeholders and technology adopters. She emphasized that UTHRC has a mandate to develop and transfer these technologies to improve the environmental condition in the city. Moreover, she reiterated that continued partnership of UTHRC and Brgy. Sucat in line with the promotion of ENR technologies would contribute in the successful implementation of the project on vertical planting of pollution-absorbent plant species in the barangay to minimize air pollution.

Ultimately, participants of the forum provided a notable impression on the activity. The President of the Senior Citizen Group exclaimed that the different learnings from the resource speakers harness the enthusiasm of the participants to adopt the ENR technologies. Moreover, a youth representative is looking forward for hands-on training on ENR technologies.
