As part of the celebration of the 31st founding anniversary of the Manila City Youth and Development Welfare Bureau (YDWB), a Nilad planting activity titled “NILAD KALINGA” was conducted on October 12, 2016 at the ASEAN Garden, Intramuros, Manila. It was an effort to propagate more Nilad plants in Manila and to relive its historic value to the city.

Before the actual planting, a short program was held. Intramuros Administration OIC Engr. Ramil Tibayan welcomed the participants to the event with a brief sharing on the relevance of Nilad in Manila City history. YDWB OIC Mr. Avelino Rivera was also in attendance to officially launch the project. Further, ERDB’s Technology Transfer Division Chief Ms. Veronica Sinohin gave a short lecture and provided technical assistance on proper Nilad propagation.

Twenty-two symbolic Nilad propagules were planted by around 50 out-of-school youths who participated in the activity. The Intramuros Administration with the assistance of the ERDB and the Urban, Toxic Substances, and Hazardous Wastes Research Center (UTHRC) will continuously monitor the growth of the Nilad propagules planted in the area.
