The Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) research team headed by Dr. Simplicia A. Pasicolan, Chief of the Urban Ecosystems Research Division (UERD) and the project staff composed of For. Wencelito P. Hintural, Ms. Jamella M. de Castro, Ms. Girlie H. Rueda and Ms. Jewel B. Labita was awarded the F.S. Pollisco Award during the LBSCFI (Los Baños Science Community Foundation Incorporated) Awarding Ceremonies and 2016 NSTW (National Science and Technology Week) closing activity. It was held on July 29, 2016 at the E. O. Tan Hall of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research Division - Department of Science and Technology (PCAARRD-DOST).
This year’s theme Is “Juan Science, One Nation”. The LBSCFI Outstanding R and D Awards gives due recognition to excellent research and development projects conducted in the community in support to national development.
Mr. Bunny Joven and Ms. Dianne Cunanan of PCAARRD were the hosts during the program. The keynote speaker, Mr. Jim Leandro Cano, Country Representative-Phillippines, Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD) emphasized the importance of the participation and engagement of the youth in the field of research and encouraged the adults or those who have more experience to impart their learnings to the youth to attain sustainable development in the field of science and technology.
Two outstanding research papers were awarded during the closing ceremony. ‘The Mapping and Monitoring Rice Areas in the Philippines: The PRISM Project Experience’, an on-line information systems project on rice from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) received the PARRFI R&D Award. The FS Pollisco Award was awarded to the paper entitled ‘Bio-ecological Characteristics of Migratory Water Birds at Priority Wetlands in Relation to Climate Change” whose research team was composed of members from the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau. The team consisted of Dr. Simplicia A. Pasicolan, Project Leader and Chief of the Urban Ecosystems Research Division (UERD) and the project staff were: For. Wencelito P. Hintural, Ms. Jamella M. de Castro, Ms. Girlie H. Rueda and Ms. Jewel B. Labita.
The turnover ceremony for the incoming LBSFI president, Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, Regional Director of DOST–Region IV-A followed after the awarding ceremonies. Kathleen L. Basilio and Ruth C. Ramirez, TTD
