The National Capital Region as a global power city and premier center for finance and commerce has undergone developments that greatly affected its environment. One of the approaches to improve negative conditions or reduce recurring expenses is the adoption of Green Technology (GT) which is environmentally friendly. It is developed and used in such a way that it does not disturb our environment, otherwise, it helps to conserve natural resources. In line with the implementation of the study entitled “Adoption/Application of Green Technology to Brace Communities against Impacts of Urbanization in the National Capital Region” to determine the application of green technologies in different cities in NCR, a consultative meeting is conducted on July 28, 2016 at Icon Hotel in Quezon City.

Said activity is participated by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) representatives of the LGUs in Metro Manila and ERDB- UTHRC staff. Dr. Simplicia A. Pasicolan, UERD, Chief and technical focal person from ERDB-C.O. gives her presentation on the importance of green technology specifically in urban setting. Afterwards, Mr. Oliver Villanueva of Marikina City presents the cost and benefit of the rainwater harvesting system being adopted in their area. Moreover, Chairman Edwin Tansingco of Brgy. St. Ignatius, Quezon City discusses the solar energy being adopted in their barangay. Some issues/recommendations mentioned during the consultation include further treatment of harvested water to make it potable and chemical analysis should be done on vegetables harvested from urban gardens. In addition, some green-related technologies could not be adopted in some LGUs due to limited space and budget, like establishment of MRFs and urban gardening. A total of 21 LGU representatives, 9 UTHRC staff and one (1) ERDB official attend the said event, totaling to 15 males and 16 females.
