In celebration of the World Environment Day and Philippine Environment Month 2016, ERDB participated in an exhibit on combating biodiversity loss and beating climate change centering on the theme “Go Wild for Life. Combat Biodiversity Loss #GreenEnvironmentGawingForever” on June 6-8, 2016 at the Activity Center of Robinsons Galleria, Mandaluyong City. The World Environment Day is celebrated every 5th of June. The event was hosted by the Environment and Management Bureau.

During the opening program, Executive Director of ACB Atty. Roberto V. Oliva, NGP Region 4A Coordinator Dr. Antonio C. Manila, ERDB Director Dr. Henry Adornado, and Undersecretary for Environment and International Environmental Affairs Atty. Jonas R. Leones imparted messages on the importance of biodiversity in the country and the challenges of climate change.

Among the guests present were students from the Ismael Mathay Sr. High School and Sta. Elena High School, representatives from the Department of Education, Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (Yes-O), and LGUs of Caloocan and Pasig. Aside from ERDB, other offices and agencies who participated in the exhibit were the Phillippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Climate Change Commission (CCC) , National Water Resources Board (NWRB), Haribon,World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Forest Management Bureau (Forest Management Bureau) and Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB).

ERDB’s exhibit featured photos of migratory shorebirds showcasing threatened and lesser known species taken by Wild Bird Photographers of the Philippines president Mr. Rey Sta Ana. The exhibit also shared information on bird migration and climate change. Photos of urban birds taken by Ms. Veronica Mercado from UERD study sites were featured as well. Some of ERDB’s publications were distributed to the public. The booth meant to promote some of ERDB’s studies and initiatives to address climate change and increase awareness of the public on the importance of conserving migratory and urban birds in the Philippines.
