The Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs) celebrated the annual Philippine Environment Month on June 24, which also happened to be the 445th celebration of Araw ng Maynila.
The group went to the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden to visit the nilad planted by the ERDB team in 2000 along the banks of the lagoon inside the zoo. Ms. Veronica O. Sinohin, ERDB senior citizens focal person, also gave a brief lecture on the plant’s significance in the history of Manila, including the fact that the city’s name was coined from the Filipino terms “may nilad” due to the plant’s diversity in the city.
The group also conducted a technical inspection of the trees that need to be rehabilitated through tree surgery inside the Manila Zoo and Luneta Park. Infested trees were documented and are subject for further studies.
part from these purposes, the learning activity was also done to encourage the participants to better appreciate their roles, not just in the Bureau, but more so in the conservation and protection of the environment and natural resources. MNOjeda, TTD
