As the DENR rationalization plan was fully implemented, the revised functions of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau and its newly created centers put the bureau into direct dealings with its clients. A one-day Symposium on RA 6969 otherwise known as the “Toxic Substances and Hazardous Wastes and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of 1990 and other related information is an effective activity to have a deeper understanding of the salient features of the said law. Notably, RA 6969 is the main focus of the newly created Urban, Toxic Substances and Hazardous Wastes Research Center (UTHRC). Hence, an IEC activity was conducted last May 19, 2016.

Two experts from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) were the guest lecturers. Engr. Santini Quiocson explained the impacts and challenges of handling chemicals and hazardous wastes. On the other hand, Ms. Emmanuelita Mendoza, OIC Chief, Chemical Management Section at EMB discussed the DENR policies for industrial chemicals.
