As a strategy to generate an updated database on the implementation of solid waste management being undertaken both by government and private sectors in resettlement areas in Metro Manila, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was undertaken. The Urban, Toxic Substances and Hazardous Wastes Research Center (UTHRC) held the said activity on March 18, 2016 in Disciplina Village, Brgy. Ugong, Valenzuela City. Thirty-six residents consisting of 12 males and 24 females from the relocation area actively participated in the discussion. Ecological Solid Waste Management Practices within the area have been discussed as part of the IEC campaign on RA 9003. Salient features of RA 9003 form part of the agenda in the FGD. Engineer Teresa S. Salanguit presented the said topic.

In the end, observation during the discussion clearly defined the strength and weaknesses, opportunities and threats with regard to the implementation of the solid waste management project in the area. Hence, results are vital inputs in the establishment of a baseline information for the study entitled “Settlement Processes and Determination of ESWM Schemes in Selected Resettlement Areas in NCR” which is currently being implemented by the UTHRC.
