Twenty-three (23) residents of Gumaca, Quezon visited the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) and its facilities on December 9, 2015 as a part of their lakbay aral in Los Baños, Laguna.
Quezon province’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) coordinated the said study tour as part of its Bottom-Up Budgeting scheme. The activity aimed to provide environment-friendly and sustainable livelihood options to the residents that are feasible to adopt in their municipalities.
Mr. Angelito B. Exconde, ERDB’s Administrative Officer, welcomed the participants. He expressed his hopes that ERDB would be able to help them in achieving the activity’s goals.
To start off, the group visited the bamboo and rattan gallery at the ERDB building where variety of conventional and nonconventional bamboo and rattan products from different Southeast Asian countries are displayed.
Afterwards, they headed to the Los Baños Experimental Station (LBES) at the Makiling Forest Reserve where different species of bamboo and other plants can be seen. Ms. Florentina Oliva and other LBES staff assisted the participants during the tour. Proper propagation of bamboo through nodal cuttings was also demonstrated.
Aside from ERDB, the group also visited the Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) and the Los Baños Municipal Materials Recovery Facility. Melanie N. Ojeda, TTD
