Forty (40) participants from the towns of Plaridel, Padre Burgos and Sampaloc, Quezon joined the Lakbay Aral on October 28, 2015 at the ERDB.
The participants were composed of the Municipal Agricultural Officers (MAOs) of Sampaloc, Plaridel and members of the Association of OFW of Padre Burgos, Quezon. Mayor Emmanuel Jesus S. Torres of Sampaloc, Quezon also joined the tour.
Dr. Antonio M. Daño, ERDB Asst. Director welcomed the participants. He thanked them for visiting ERDB. He said, "I hope this will be a day of learning and seeing what God has created".
Ms. Vienna O. Austria, Training Officer of ERDB introduced the participants and made a brief introduction of ERDB including its vision and mission and the uses of bamboo.
The participants were toured by Mr. Digno Garcia at the ERDB bamboo gallery where they saw the different handicrafts made from bamboo. They were also brought to the Los Baños Experiment Station (LBES) demonstration area where they saw the different species of bamboo, medicinal plants and the rattan gene bank. A demonstration on bamboo propagation was also shown by Mr. Edgardo Castillo and Mr. Jose Panganiban using the one-one and two node cutting procedures.
Ms. Lisa Condino of LBES also gave a briefing on their activities at the demonstration area. Some of the participants were able to bring home the bamboo cuttings placed in black plastic bags. The participants were very eager to learn and asked several questions which showed their interest on the activity.
As a sign of appreciation, the group from the Quezon Provincial Office gave a certificate of appreciation to ERDB Director Henry A. Adornado for accommodating them in the Lakbay Aral. Marla V. Cambay, TTD
