ERDB joined the 1st National Conference on Food and Nutrition Security in Crimson Hotel, Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa on October 12-13. The conference aims to present the current status of food production, trade, food security information, nutrition security, RDE, and governance policies on food security in the Philippines.
Atty. Jonas R. Leones, Undersecretary for Environment and International Environmental Affairs delivered thekeynote message in behalf of DENR Secretary Ramon JP Paje. He reminded the participants for being fortunate to have breakfast while others cannot remember their last meal. He also stated the problem of environmental degradation and having more mouths to feed. With this, he emphasized the importance of research to develop technology that will help to address the problem of food security and be shared to the public.
Participants from the academe, LGUs, NGAs, POs, NGOs, farmers, consumer groups and industries shared what they have learned from the conference through the workshop. They identified current constraints, issues, challenges, and researchable areas of food and nutrition security.
To face the challenges on food and nutrition security, some of the responses given by the participants from the national conference were having good governance and information systems in the country.
