To add deeper meaning to the celebration of Labor Day, the kids of the employees of the Mining and Degraded Areas Rehabilitation Center (MDARRC) Satellite Office No 12 in Amas, Kidapawan City joined the tree planting activity inside the 100-hectare Experimental Forest last May 1, 2015. With the theme: "Tulungan ang Kalikasan, Magtanim ng Puno Para sa Kinabukasan", the May 1 "first of its kind" tree planting activity was participated in by 35 MDARRC-Satellite Office employees together with their kids and representatives from the Special Action Force (SAF) and Cotabato Provincial Public Safety Forces (CPPSF) in the Province of Cotabato.

MDARRC OIC-Center Head Dr. Bighani M. Manipula in his message during the opening program encouraged the children to love the environment and remind their parents to also do the same. Wanting to reach the young minds, he added in Cebuano dialect: "kamo ang among paglaom, ang inyo mga maitanom nga mga kahoy karon ug sa mga umaabot nga panahon maoy makatabang nga mabalik ang kanindot ug kaayo sa atong kinaiyahan" (you are our hope, the trees that you will be planting today and in the future can surely help bring back the richness and beauty of the environment). Likewise, Dr. Manipula also thanked the men, women and officers of SAF and CPPSF who joined the tree planting activity. A total of 150 indigenous seedlings were planted during the May 1 event. (VFFN)
