Sylvatrop, the DENR’s official technical journal on Philippine ecosystems and natural resources, published a special issue in collaboration with the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources from the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).
This special issue was funded by the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research through the UPLB project “Catalyzing UPLB’s status as a Research University: Enhancing its Publication Output Comparable to ASEAN University Counterparts”.
It covers topics on spatial vulnerability assessment, carbon stock assessment of agroforestry systems, image analysis to assess regeneration and restoration dynamics of a tropical forest under stress, tree biomass estimation, assessment of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry curriculum, landslide susceptibility mapping, development of nonlinear models in an industrial tree plantation, spatio-temporal analysis using Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing software, and estimation of visitors’ willingness to pay for the enhanced conservation of Mount Makiling Forest Reserve.
In his message in the latest issue of the journal, DENR Sec. Roy A. Cimatu lauded Sylvatrop for consistently serving as a reliable conduit of innovative knowledge, and extended his gratitude to the UPLB-IRNR for partnering with Sylvatrop to publish their research.
Sec. Cimatu hopes that academic collaborations will increase in the future and continue to fill the knowledge gaps for public service and ecological development.
