As part of the ERDB- Coastal Resources and Ecotourism Research Development and Extension Center (CRERDEC’s) activities to strengthen the promotion of sustainable tourism in Cebu, a stakeholders’ partnership meeting was held on May 14, 2021 at Barangay Logon Covered Court, Malapascua Island, Daanbantayan, Cebu.

The aim was to discuss and identify the roles and obligations of the parties to be involved in the adoption of Tourism Carrying Capacity in the Island, a popular tourist destination in the northern part of Cebu and a diver’s haven known worldwide for its thresher sharks.

The meeting was a follow-through activity of the technology forum which was held last April 29, 2021 at the municipality of Daanbantayan.

It provided a venue for the identified tourism stakeholders to critique the draft Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

In attendance were representatives from the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) and concerned offices of LGU Daanbantayan, BLGU Logon, local peoples’ and private organizations, and Non-Government Organization.

The committee meeting was attended by members of both SB Environment and Tourism Committees, chaired by Hon Elvir Ali B. Abucay and Hon. Marylou E. Pepito, respectively; MENRO and MPDO of the LGU; BLGU Logon Punong Barangay; and representatives from the local NGO, People of the Sea.

Also in attendance, was the PENR Officer of DENR-PENRO Cebu, For. Jose Cleo Cary F. Colis, who also helped in enlightening the minds of the SB members present on the practical application of CarCap and at the same time, gave his utmost support for the implementation of CarCap in both islands.

The MOA signing is set on June 30, 2021 to mark the beginning of the implementation and adoption of carrying capacity in the islands of Malapascua and Carnaza, Daanbantayan, Cebu. M.J.G. Blanca, CRERDEC
