CRERDEC Sr. Science Research Specialist, For. Joselito T. Sumabat discussed the topic on Tree Growing; students raised some questions during the open forum; and photo-ops with some groups of student participants with the CACEC Chair, Rev. Fr. Michael Murphy Sarsonas, D.D.

The Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Environmental Concerns (CACEC) conducted a youth convergence initiative dubbed as “Gamot: A Youth Convergence Learning Session” last July 6, 2019 at the University of San Carlos, Main Campus in Cebu City. One of the topics discussed was on appropriate tree growing technology. Relative to this, For. Joselito T. Sumabat, Sr. Science Research Specialist of CRERDEC discussed the topic on proper tree planting, maintenance and protection techniques, particularly using good quality planting materials from indigenous forest tree species.

The learning session is part of the series of Environmental Sustainability Awareness Seminar (ESAS) conducted by CACEC which focus on the promotion of environmental awareness, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation among parish communities, lay organizations and youth groups in the province of Cebu.

The half-day learning session was attended by a total of 94 high school and college students from 14 schools in Cebu. A number of faculty members were also present during said activity.

CRERDEC’s engagement in the learning session was part of its commitment to provide technical assistance to CACEC as per Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by and between ERDB and the Archdiocese of Cebu. J.T. Sumabat, CRERDEC
