In line with the observance of Arbor Day held every 25th day of the month of June in the Philippines and as part of the Environment Month celebration, the Watershed and Water Resources Research Center (WWRRC) personnel and staff conducted tree planting activity and cleaning of the office surroundings on June 22, 2018.
This activity was conducted to promote healthier ecosystems for the people through the rehabilitation and re-greening of the environment. The activities were simultaneously conducted and participated by other DENR offices in their respective area of jurisdiction on the said day. A total of 500 Benguet Pine (Pinus kesiya) seedlings were planted within a 1,000 sq.m area inside the premises of WWRRC compound.
After the tree planting activity, cleaning of office surroundings was also accomplished pursuant to Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management. The WWRRC collected waste materials/garbage which include plastic bottles, candy wrappers, papers and others that were indiscriminately thrown by local tourists and by-passers at the entrance of the office since this spacious area serves as parking lot of some motorists.
